Cool Weather and Fog add to a Hot Weekend of Racing

Despite a few setbacks with the weather this season Horsham Motorsports Club wrapped up their 2016/17 schedule with a stellar week end with their Winter Speedway Carnival featuring Wingless Sprintcars, Limited Sportsman, Three Litre sedans, Ladies, Juniors, Street Stocks and open sedans and the annual visit of the Vintage heavy Hot Rods, Stock cars and the addition of a new class of vintage sedans (Tin Tops) debuting for the first time at the Track in The Paddock at Kalkee.

Day one on Saturday saw a thick layer of fog settle on the facility as the very capable and dedicated track crew worked their magic on the track surface and as drivers gathered at trackside there were a lot of nodding heads and knowing glances as lines were looked for well before the rubber hit the clay.

With nominations for the event numbering almost 120 cars already in the books the club was thrilled to have over 130 cars in the pits by race time due to the cancellation of a meeting in Sydney and last minute decisions by others to have another “Kick at the Can”.

Micka has literally grown up on at Blue Ribbon Raceway. The late Jenny Simpson, would pack up Micka & her son Dylan from about the age of 4 and take them out to watch the speedway. From the age of 12, Micka started nagging for his own car to race – which didn’t happen. So he volunteered at the track until he turned 18 and begun to race.

This is Micka’s second car. The first, a XF Falcon Street Stock was written off on the track. The wreck had to be craned off the track, they attempted to rebuild it but it was too far gone.

Simpson Brings Home Di Watson Memorial

Horsham Motor Sports Club celebrated twenty years of racing at Blue Ribbon Raceway on Saturday. Speedway drivers from all corners of Victoria and South Australia made the journey to help celebrate the Kalkee track.

On top of the bill was the Victorian Modified Production Association who was also celebrating 20 years of association.

Daniel Simpson Victorious in Front of Home Crowd

The final series round of the VMPA Tritech Lubricants Series was held on Saturday night at Blue Ribbon Raceway, Horsham with local driver Daniel Simpson emerging victorious in what was an incident fraught final.

Heading into the Series it was shaping up to be a massive showdown between the series top contenders Mark Carlin and Brody Chrystie with Graham West also in a position to make inroads on the Series podium as well.
