Saturday night saw the return of the speedway season at Blue Ribbon Raceway.
One of the features of the night was the 1200cc Junior’s which was sponsored by the Dimboola Traders. Fifteen junior cars contested four heats and a final.
Some very close and exciting racing panned out over the night with Michael Gorman, (Alexandra) taking the honours in the final from Chris Heard, (Laang) and Peter Kinnear, (Warrnambool) in third place.
Other events on the night were the Heavy Hot Rods demonstration event won by M.Hutchesson, 2nd was Mount Gambiers Dennis Bald who won all the heats but was beaten in the final, The GP Midgets feature was won by Mark Cecil who had been unplaced in the heats but found form in the final from Lisa Chalcrasft and Gary Cassidy and the Wingless Sprint cars.
The Wingless Sprint cars put on some very exciting racing during the night and they concluded with a twenty lap final . The final was hotly contested and eventually Mark Walsh ran out the winner from Luke Weel and Gary Bowden.
Local lady driver Amy Yole blitzed the field in the ladies event winning all three heats from Emma Hutchinson 2nd driving with a broken toe and Emma Wilkens third. Amy drove the big Three Litre Commodore for owner Reg Luy of Pimpinio. Reg’s son Brett drove the same car in the ASCF sedan event and after a few problems with the power steering Brett showed class to win his final heat.
Matt Gerlach was impressive winning the other two heats with returning driver Chris Reid and Horsham’s Dan Watson sharing the other placings.
Dimboola driver Russell Taylor returned after a year off , to gain three third placings in the Limited Sportsman events. Russell is looking for consistency in his driving this year after having a lot of non finishes two years ago. The McDonald Boys Mark 3 firsts and Tim 3 seconds showed the way in the sporties races .
The V8 trucks were down in numbers but still frilled the crowds with thumping and bumping and close finishes .Luke James driving Ho 57 dominated winning all races on the night. Wes Bell and Jack McGennisken shared the placings.

The next race meeting at Blue Ribbon Raceway is on November 21st with the Super Modifieds as feature and all the usual support classes.
