New $60,OOO Speed Track at Dooen?

Horsham Motor Sports Club hopes to start a new $60,000 speedway track at Dooen this year.

The proposed track will be at Dooen swamp, next to to Horsham Pistol Club’s range.

The club has asked Wimmera Shire Council to apply to the Minister for Youth, Sport and Recreation, Mr Dixon, for a dollar-for-dollar government grant. It plans to form a co-operative to raise its $30,000 share of the cost.

Two Firsts to Eltze

Horsham racing driver Neville Eltze scored two firsts and two seconds in his Standard Sportsman at Portland speedway meeting at the weekend.

Ron Frew scored one second and two thirds and Graeme Muller was third twice at the same meeting.

Ken Kowarzik won a second and third placings in A-Grade Saloon events. He also won a second at Warrnambool meeting on Saturday.

Baker Breaks The Ice

Baker Breaks the IceKeith Baker, of Horsham, broke through for his first win in five years of racing when he won a Standard Sportsman event at Hamilton car races on Sunday. Driving Graeme Muller’s car, Baker put in his best performance to take the honours in a class field.

In a successful meeting for Horsham Motor Sports club they gained 27 placings. Ray Harris was second in the A grade Saloon event, the feature race of the day. In the B grade Saloons the Bell brothers gained a first, second and third. Steve Minne a first and two-thirds, Peter Spokes, Robert Emmett, Denis Fraser and Colin Keam each seconds, and Leon Ellis a third.

Gladys Bell gained a first and a third in the Women’s Races. Neville Eltze continued his winning form with three-firsts and a third in the Standard Sportsman section.

Kevin Baker finished with a first, a second and third. Percy Puls broke through for his first win of the season and also gained a second. Ron Frew and Peter Mirtshin gained seconds and Graeme Muller a third placing.

Eltze gained two-firsts and second and finished sixth in the feature race at Portland on Saturday night, and Ron Frew was fourth in the feature event.

Eltze in Top Form

Horsham racing car driver Neville Eltze was placed in all nine races he entered at Stawell and Portland meetings last weekend. Eltze, driving his Standard Sportsman ‘Red Chariot’, won three firsts, four seconds and two thirds.

Four Horsham drivers won places in a Standard Sportsman championship at Stawell on Sunday. Col McDonald was second, Neville Eltze third, Graham Muller fourth and Les Preusker fifth.

Weekend results are:

Portland (Saturday night), Ray Harris, Saloon car, third; Neville Eltze, Standard Sportsman, 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 1 third.

Stawell, Standard Sportsmen, Neville Eltze, 1 first, 2 seconds, 1 third; Col McDonald, 1 first, 1 second; Rex Konig, 1 first; Les Presumer, 1 third, Saloon Cars, Ray Harris, 2 seconds,1 third, Wes Bell 1 second.
