The weather was bitterly cold but the racing action was hot on the long weekend for the season finale at Kalkee. Close to 100 cars nominated for the signature event of the Blue Ribbon Raceway season, the two-day speedway carnival. With class sizes above normal and drivers heading into their off-season, the competition was fiercer than ever.
Mechanical problems of a different kind threatened the continuation of the long awaited speedway carnival. Half way through the events scheduled on Saturday afternoon it was discovered that a fault in the club’s generator was going to force postponing of events. Fortunately another smaller generator was lent to the club which enabled minimal lighting and canteens to be run on Sunday.
