Horsham Motorsports Club calls for support

HORSHAM Motorsports Club suffered financially in its 2010-11 season.

Club media officer Ian Yole said the financial difficulties would be short-term, brought on by meeting cancellations in October and January. Both meetings were washed out.

Mr Yole said it was a relief the drivers supported the season’s final meeting at the weekend.

“In the summer period with speedway, you rarely get washouts like we had this year,” Mr Yole said.

“We are lucky in a way because some clubs south – Hamilton and Avalon – have lots of washouts a year.

“Speedway is always expensive and you need to bring money in at meetings.”

Mr Yole said while the crowd was disappointing at the weekend, entries were high.

“We had a big field of cars on Saturday,” he said.

“We think we’ll profit well from the weekend.”

Mr Yole said the motorsports club would bounce back when its 2011-12 season starts in October.

“There will be no financial burden now until the start of the season and we will be looking at membership to add to our finances,” he said.

“We call for the community to support us in the following season. We are looking at ways to make membership more appealing.

“The club is holding the Victorian junior titles next year and it’s always a good money spinner because juniors normally bring families.

“It’s something the club looks forward to.”
