Horsham Motor Sports Club brought their 2017/18 season to a close over the Queens Birthday long weekend with an old fashioned Sunday Butchers Picnic.

Featuring Wingless Sprints, Limited Sportsman, Three Litre Sedans, SSA Juniors, Street Stocks, three Vintage Classes and Horshams own V8 Trucks and, as a salute to the past, mechanics were strapped into the cars they work and set loose to strut their stuff.

A small amount of rain hit the track in the days before and the track crew  worked hard to prepare the racing surface. As usual the track came up beautifully and it was a credit to the team. Continue reading Speedway Season Ends with old Fashion Picnic

With 21 cars attending the final run for the season it was certainly a trip down memory lane for some of the older speedway fans up in the crowd over the two days of demonstrations.

We had several older guys actually pay to enter the pits on the second day just so they could be up close and talk amongst the drivers about there days gone by. They all went away Sunday night with the thought of “if only I could find a car” ,and I’m sure today they are still talking and thinking about it.

Horsham threw the typical June long weekend weather at us with thick fog and 2° temperatures through till 11am then seeing the sun shine till 5pm before it started repeating the night before hands weather pattern. The track was soft, slimy and very wide as usual, but lots of fun none the less.

Despite a few setbacks with the weather this season Horsham Motorsports Club wrapped up their 2016/17 schedule with a stellar week end with their Winter Speedway Carnival featuring Wingless Sprintcars, Limited Sportsman, Three Litre sedans, Ladies, Juniors, Street Stocks and open sedans and the annual visit of the Vintage heavy Hot Rods, Stock cars and the addition of a new class of vintage sedans (Tin Tops) debuting for the first time at the Track in The Paddock at Kalkee.

Day one on Saturday saw a thick layer of fog settle on the facility as the very capable and dedicated track crew worked their magic on the track surface and as drivers gathered at trackside there were a lot of nodding heads and knowing glances as lines were looked for well before the rubber hit the clay.

With nominations for the event numbering almost 120 cars already in the books the club was thrilled to have over 130 cars in the pits by race time due to the cancellation of a meeting in Sydney and last minute decisions by others to have another “Kick at the Can”.

Horsham Motor Sports Club will wrap up the season at the Track in the paddock at Kalkee with a speedway carnival this Saturday and Sunday.

The annual two day race meeting will be held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th, with speedway drivers from across Victoria and South Australia racing on both days.

A big field Wingless Sprint Cars have nominated to race on the weekend, in what has become an annual feature race. The class is becoming as popular as the Winged Sprincars and, although not having the horsepower of the 360 and 410 cu inch cars, they make it up with aerial acrobatics due to the lack of the large aerodynamic wings on the cars, always a great show.
